Rental Conditions
These Rental Conditions form an integral part of the rental agreement between My Van Portugal (the “Owner”) and the renter (the “Renter”). By making a reservation, signing the rental agreement, or taking possession of the vehicle, the Renter confirms full understanding and acceptance of the conditions below.
1.1. All drivers must have been in possession of a valid driving license suitable for the category and size of the rented vehicle for a minimum of two (2) years.
1.2. A European Union driving license, category B, is sufficient for all vehicles offered within EU countries.
1.3. If a national driving license does not meet these requirements, the rental will be cancelled without entitlement to use the vehicle.
1.4. The minimum age to rent a vehicle is 23 years, with at least two (2) years of driving experience operating manual transmission vehicles.
1.5. Most vehicles in our fleet are equipped with manual transmission. If the Renter or any authorized driver is unable to drive a manual vehicle, the rental will be cancelled.
1.6. In certain cases, exceptions to the minimum age requirement may be considered for experienced drivers. Such exceptions must be requested and approved in writing by email prior to the start of the rental.
2.1. Check-in: From 15:30 onwards.
2.2. Check-out: Until 10:00.
2.3. Unless otherwise agreed, check-in and check-out are self-service at our Lisbon base or at the agreed location.
2.4. Clear instructions and procedures will be provided to the Renter prior to arrival, allowing for flexible arrival and departure within the agreed timeframes.
2.5. Telephone assistance will be available at all times should the Renter require support during check-in or check-out.
3.1. A security deposit of EUR 1,000 (or EUR 1,500 for larger RVs) is required for each rental.
3.2. The security deposit serves as a guarantee to cover any loss, damage, or missing items relating to the rental vehicle during the rental period.
3.3. In the event of damage, the Owner may apply the security deposit toward repair or replacement costs.
3.4. If repair or replacement costs exceed the security deposit, the Renter remains responsible for the balance, unless optional insurance purchased covers the amount above the deductible.
3.5. The security deposit must be paid before the start of the trip. If the deposit is not settled, the vehicle may not be driven.
3.6. The security deposit will be released within 15 working days after the end of the rental, subject to vehicle inspection.
4.1. The vehicle must be returned in a reasonably clean condition.
4.2. A flat cleaning fee of EUR 35 applies to all rentals.
4.3. If the vehicle is returned in excessively dirty condition, an additional cleaning fee will be charged, bringing the total cleaning fee to EUR 70.
5.1. Cancellations made 30 days or more prior to the scheduled pick-up date will receive a full refund of all amounts paid up to that date.
5.2. Cancellations made less than 30 days and more than 15 days prior to the scheduled check-in date entitle the Renter to choose between:
A 50% refund, or
A flexible travel voucher for 100% of the booking amount, valid for one (1) year.
5.3. Cancellations made less than 15 days prior to the scheduled check-in date entitle the Renter to a 40% travel voucher of the total booking amount.
5.4. Travel vouchers are valid for one (1) year from the original rental date and may only be used during low season (01/11 – 30/04), excluding the Christmas/New Year period and Easter.
5.5. In the case of customer-initiated cancellations, any payment processing fees or charges are borne solely by the customer.
6.1. The rented vehicle may only be used for personal and leisure purposes.
6.2. The vehicle may only be operated on properly maintained public roads and designated parking areas.
6.3. The Renter must comply with all applicable traffic laws and licensing requirements.
6.4. Subleasing, lending, or using the vehicle for commercial purposes or hire is strictly prohibited.
6.5. The vehicle may not be taken outside Portugal unless expressly authorized in writing by the Owner.
7.1. No mileage limitations apply within Portugal.
7.2. Trips outside Portugal are subject to the following conditions:
Vintage vans: Travel outside Portugal is not permitted.
Modern vans: Unlimited mileage is permitted within Portugal and Spain.
7.3. Travel outside Portugal and Spain requires a minimum rental period of seven (7) nights.
7.4. All trips outside Portugal must be declared in advance so that insurance coverage can be updated. Failure to do so may result in penalties and loss of insurance coverage.
8.1. All vehicles include third-party liability insurance valid in Portugal, covering legal liability for third-party property damage.
8.2. Damage to the rental vehicle for which the Renter is responsible is not included in this coverage.
8.3. Accidents for which the Renter is not responsible must be properly documented using the Official European Accident Statement provided with the vehicle.
8.4. In the event of an accident, the Renter must immediately contact the Owner for guidance.
8.5. If any red warning lights appear on the vehicle dashboard, the Renter must stop immediately and contact the Owner. Continuing to drive the vehicle may cause severe damage and will be considered the Renter’s responsibility.
8.6. Optional complementary insurance products are available during the booking process.
9.1. In the event of a vehicle breakdown, the Renter must contact the Owner immediately to determine the next steps.
9.2. Roadside assistance will attempt to repair the vehicle on site where possible; otherwise, the vehicle will be transported to a repair facility.
9.3. If the vehicle can be repaired promptly, accommodation (if required) will be provided near the repair location. The Owner reserves the right to allow up to two (2) full working days for repairs before cancellation and refund of the unused rental period.
9.4. If the vehicle cannot be repaired quickly, the Owner will provide instructions. The Renter must:
Leave the vehicle in the best possible condition
Take photos of the interior and exterior
Switch off all electrical equipment
Obtain a copy of the tow or intervention report
9.5. If the Renter is not responsible for the breakdown, the Owner will cover assistance, repair, accommodation, and local transportation costs up to the nightly rental rate.
9.6. If the breakdown or assistance is required due to misuse or improper operation, all related costs will be borne by the Renter.
9.7. Insurance assistance does not apply in remote locations or areas inaccessible to tow vehicles.
10.1. The Renter agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Owner against any loss, damage, claims, or legal actions arising from the use or operation of the rental vehicle during the rental period.
10.2. This indemnification includes legal costs and attorney fees where applicable.
10.3. The Renter is fully responsible for all parking tickets, traffic violations, fines, and citations incurred while in possession of the rental vehicle.
By proceeding with the rental, the Renter confirms acceptance of all Rental Conditions stated above.

10.1. The Renter agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Owner against any loss, damage, claims, or legal actions arising from the use or operation of the rental vehicle during the rental period.
10.2. This indemnification includes legal costs and attorney fees where applicable.
10.3. The Renter is fully responsible for all parking tickets, traffic violations, fines, and citations incurred while in possession of the rental vehicle.
